I'm an gorging hunter and have been making a version of this recipe for years. I like to lightly dust venison backstraps medallions (i/iv" thick) in flour, and so follow the recipe equally is. I too practise add a impact of dry sherry during the browning process to really give information technology a kicking. Delicious and heathly meal. Enjoy!
02/21/2002
I'thousand e'er looking for something new for all that deer meat my husband brings home...this was very adept. I served it over mini penne pasta. The only thing I might exercise differently is used reduced sodium soup.

With a few changes this recipe is wonderful! I used 'golden mushroom soup' instead of other (it makes a big difference), 2 heaping spoonfuls of sour foam 30 min earlier serving instead of other, and a can of sliced mushrooms all in the crock pot. Kept other stuff the aforementioned. First-class over wide egg noodles!
01/05/2005
Neither my married man or I liked this recipe. It did zilch for the venison taste plus the cream of mushroom taste was very overwhelming.
02/24/2008
I too accept made a similar recipe for years. Information technology'southward a slap-up hit with everyone I have served it to. (Fifty-fifty those that insist they DON'T LIKE VENISON!) I serve mine over broiled potatoes, after cooking all day in the boring cooker, the meat is so tender it practically falls autonomously. Awesome recipe!!

Dearest using our venison anyway I can. I also added a agglomeration of mushrooms, sauteing them with the onions and fresh garlic first. And then browned the meat (dusted with flour and paprika). Put all of that with the soup and about a ane/4 loving cup of sherry in the crockpot. Finished it with 1/4 cup sour foam just before serving. Voila! It was soooo tender.
03/29/2001
Wonderful repast! My husband loved it and the girls actually liked the deer meat in information technology! A very proficient manner to dress upwardly venison!
05/19/2011
Husband and son idea this dinner was wonderful. I browned the meat and onions on the stovetop and so put the mixture in the crock-pot. Since nosotros are not mushroom people, I only added 1 can of COM soup and added 1 can of CO Celery soup. Worked wonderfully (so I'k told), as I don't care for venison. I served over hot white rice as that is how my family likes stroganoff along with steamed broccoli. Cathy they loved this recipe and asked that I make it again sometime. Cheers for sharing.
12/29/2010
This was good, albiet very rich. I like another reviewer'south suggestion of adding sherry during browning and I may effort this next time (simmering the venison in the sherry for a trivial while). This may aid the meat to soften up (ours was a piddling tough) and lose some of the gaminess that really came through in this dish.

Tom loved this. I added some sliced mushrooms to the chopped onions and sauted in olive oil and then set aside. I floured the meat, sauted it in oil and added seasoning while it was frying. Tom bought creamy portabello soup and when it was added to the pan with the rest of the ingredients, the flour thickened it upwards nicely. Added a picayune sour foam and voila!

Very good recipe. I'm non crazy about deer, but my hubby loves information technology and we e'er have some in the freezer. This receipe was so piece of cake. I didn't fifty-fifty bother with sauteing the onions or browning the meet. I put it all in the slower cooker and went from there. Nosotros told the kids information technology was beef and they couldn't tell the difference. I didn't have egg noodles and used white rice instead. It worked out perfectly. I volition definately make this again.
06/16/2003
This is a wonderful change for venison. I am ever looking for proficient venison recipes and this is definately a keeper. I wasn't sure if the meat would exist tender enough so I cooked and extra ten minutes and it was extremely tender. I do think two cans of soup is a bit much so I will use one next time. Otherwise this is terrific!
01/02/2011
Turned out really good. Will brand once more..
01/05/2011
I made this recipe because nosotros were all out of food (except for venison) and snowed in...I was skeptical about venison stroganoff simply because my hubby is bery picky when information technology comes to venison. I have only plant 3 different means he actually likes it prepared. Now I am upwards to 4 thanks to this recipe! He LOVED information technology. Now I know more than 3 recipes, that freezer filled with venison won't go to waste! Oh and the kids ate it up too....my son was surprised that it was venison! Take that picky eaters!!!
07/18/2011
easy to make and anybody was impressed.
02/12/2011
I would make this recipe once again simply with modifications. I would not employ any onion made onion powder and I would add milk to the soup to thin it a little.
01/23/2008
This recipe was very easy to make. I added some paprika and used foam of mushroom roasted garlic soup instead of the regular soup. Anybody loved the gustatory modality. Thank you
10/18/2009
Great, easy recipe. Made this with canned honey meat so the whole thing took about 15 minutes total. Didn't have sour cream or egg noodles - served it over rice instead and information technology was all the same delicious.
03/05/2009
I received a rear roast of venison a family friend brought down in Wis. I made this recipe because I LOVE stroganoff & I had a surplus of cream of mush. soup & portabella shrooms Y-U-U-U-M. The ONLY deviation is I did not drain the broth fabricated from browning...I used fresh minced garlic and yummy vidalia onion. Cheers! I got rave reviews from my swain and his friend! I will definately be using this recipe over again and over again!
11/eleven/2011
I let the deer soak in milk for virtually an hour before cooking. I used minced garlic (about ane one/2 Tblsp). A few shakes of paprika, and sherry (to cover skillet) when I began sauteeing the onions. I added boosted sherry when I put the meat in the skillet. It was delicious!!!
04/14/2009
Great. Didn't even taste gamey. Will make again when nosotros have venison.
01/03/2008
I liked it. I used low fat sour cream and soup so it wasn't the total flavor, simply I still liked it. My hubby didn't like the sauce though. Keep in mind, he's hard to please.
07/31/2009
I have been making this same dish, thought mine was the only i, but I add Laury's Seasoning Table salt to my venison while I am cooking information technology and sliced or canned mushrooms. Since I am lactose intolerant I don't add the sour cream! This is also really proficient with hamburger if y'all practise not like venison!
03/08/2009
This was my first time cooking Venison. My husband'southward golf game buddy brought him some from his hunting trek. I was very reluctant about cooking it because I heard that subsequently preparing the meat would taste "gamey". I looked effectually online and found out that soaking the meat at least 8 hours ahead of fourth dimension would help get rid of the gamey taste. I permit the meat soak in milk in the fridge the night earlier. I followed the recipe and everything turned out nifty! Me being me, I just added a bit more seasonings. Everybody loved information technology and tin't look for me to cook it again. Thanks for submitting!
04/29/2007
Excellent recipe. I unremarkably have a venison roast in the freezer that works great with this recipe. =Dave
03/07/2011
This was excellent! Thanks for sharing!
01/09/2008

xi/17/2011
Absolutely amazing recipe!! Kids had seconds! Thanks and then much!
01/01/2010
made this the style the recipe said the first time and I don't recall I will do that again. All in all it was good and even my picky eater ate it but it needs something a niggling more. I I think that I volition apply only one can of soup and try roasted garlic and mushroom soup instead. I will besides add a can of peas & mushrooms each. I will as well try it in the crock pot instead of on the stove equally the meat came out actually tough.
03/10/2010
I wasn't all that impressed with this but was partly my fault. The venison was cooked perfectly and and then I let it cook a few minutes longer and it got pretty tough. I thought the sauce was pretty bland and so I cooked in a little red wine, Worstershire and then even a piffling Chulula for a boot.
11/19/2005
My married man loved this! I unfortunately could not eat it equally I had to be on a totally fat free diet and did not have fat free soup or sour cream in the business firm. I'm looking frontward to trying it myself in the hereafter!
08/19/2018
Great recipe! Easy and tastes delicious. Way too many noodles though for my liking. I used one-half and used the other half for something else.
10/20/2018
I made this in my crockpot and the meat was so tender it fell autonomously. I changed it a piddling chip. I used elk meat and used ane can of cream of mushroom soup and 1 can of beefy mushroom. I also used only 1/four cup of sour foam. My family actually loved it and I'll definitely be making it again.
08/12/2014
I do not care for the taste of venison at all. I accept found if you brine the meat a few days in accelerate, information technology tastes more than like beef, and less similar venison.
ten/03/2018
Delicious!
02/01/2019
We dearest it because its simple but we add minced garlic, onion, a little bit of Worcestershire, fish sauce, beefiness bullion stock and rosemary
11/02/2005
Delicious even with rigitoni noodles instead of egg noodles. The cooking procedure does not tenderize the meat, so a tender cut of venison is a must. Our whole family unit liked it (ages 1 to 60's).
04/23/2020
I fabricated this last night. It was very good. I had to use cream of white potato soup considering this is all I had on hand. I did read the reviews and followed some of the suggestions. I did flour my venison earlier cooking. I added information technology all to the slow cooker with a splash of cooking sherry. Next time I will add more meat and mushrooms. I did not take any mushrooms but dear them. This was a very easy style to make venison. I cooked information technology on low for well-nigh four hours. The meat was tender. Thank you for sharing the recipe and all the reviews prior to mine. Besides remember to exist careful not to over salt when you using condensed soup equally information technology is high in sodium correct out of the tin can.
03/15/2014
VERY GOOD
01/01/2013
loved this with a few changes, just one can of soup, and some milk to make the sauce. Served on rice. Kids loved information technology!
03/16/2014
I made this with cold packed venison and it was deelish!
11/16/2005
My family loves this recipe! I use strips of venison and cream of craven soup. I also leave the sour cream out. My kids always have second helpings!
03/15/2014
This was a hit with my family unit and then easy to make. I substituted the noodles for chocolate-brown rice and it was succulent!
12/12/2003
I loved this recipe! It is elementary and like shooting fish in a barrel to make...which is right up my aisle! Plus, information technology was delicious and my family unit loved it! I even forgot to add the sour cream and information technology tasted great! Bask!
02/02/2004
Could use more simmer cooking time and the onions listed took all taste from the venison. Other than that, it tasted good and the guests liked information technology.
09/15/2019
I've made this with venison and steak. Both are astonishing! Definitely one of my favorites and and so piece of cake to brand!
01/07/2007
i didn't accept 2 cans of cream of mushroom then i used 1 each cream of mushroom and one of cream of celery. also thought mixture was thick and wasn't sure if i should add h2o so i added a tin can of h2o as well. the end result was still excellent, and will definitely be used over again with what ever meat is on hand.
02/18/2015
This was excellent. I used two cans soup and a can of skim milk. Also sauted and added ii packages of sliced mushrooms. Cooked information technology for 5-6 hrs on depression in the crock pot.
05/xx/2013
Used Bulky Mushroom soup & Golden mushroom soup. Also added fresh mushrooms to the steak & put it all in the Crockpot. Added 1/2 can of tomato paste, along with the sour foam before serving. Really delicious & very tender.
07/12/2015
Corking recipe, elementary and quick. As an avid hunter we always have wild game bachelor. This stroganoff was a great compliment to venison. We will make it again the only matter we will change iswe like things a little spicier so we volition add together something to requite it some heat..
07/22/2006
Here are the changes I fabricated: I used t 8 oz packages of seitan that I had simmered in 3 cups of water and 4 teaspoons of vegetarian beef flavored granules instead of the venison. I sliced vi largish mushrooms I had in the fridge and added ii iv oz czns (drained) of mushroom ends and pieces. I also added virtually 8 oz of water and a couple of ounces of dry out vermouth. I besides used whole wheat noodles. My vegetarian family just loved this, and I will definitely brand it again, as there are very few good seitan recipes.
11/xi/2013
I'g not a big cook but I fabricated this and non only was it like shooting fish in a barrel but my family loved it!
05/xv/2016
I added nigh 2 tsp of Worcestershire sauce and i/2 loving cup Sherry I also used venison round steak and caramelized the red onion.
12/31/2017
This was a good meal. The 4 stars is only because I feel the amount of sour foam recommended, was a bit too much. I changed things upwards a fleck by using minced garlic, sautéed with the onions. I and so put a cup of beef bullion in the sauté and put the venison in to simmer until tender and drained off nearly of it to follow the remaining directions.
05/01/2020
So bomb
01/01/2014
Easy prep, enjoyed the meal only I added sherry to it near a one-half a loving cup and it fabricated information technology more flavorful and very delicious. My venison adverted family enjoyed every bit of it and I was complemented.. A keeper for my hunting buddies too.
12/20/2013
Succulent! I added You lot merely need i tin of soup and 1/2 the sour cream plus I added a 1/2 cup milk to the soup and so it wasn't as well thick, other than that I followed the recipe and it came out wonderful! Everyone enjoyed information technology! If you double the meat, than don't adjust the soup or sour cream.
11/05/2014
Succulent!! And I made it with a side of boiled, roasted, and seasoned saccharide beets!
05/21/2016
I fabricated this, turned out amazing, now I don't have access to venison, and then I did utilise beefiness. With the soup, I added 2 cups of milk and I used one can of cream of mushroom and one tin of cream of craven because some comments on hither said the mushroom soup took away the gustation a bit, I also fabricated jasmine rice with this which fabricated it much more filling.
02/12/2019
I added 1 tbl of beef paste and a cup of milk. It was delicious!
05/09/2017
This was good. I actually don't understand why people would want to put flour on the venison before frying. It is not needed. The venison was tender and the sauce was good. The kids (3 and v) even ate information technology. My husband actually enjoyed it.
11/22/2013
I made this final night and added mushrooms and also used the roasted garlic mushroom soup. Information technology was delicious. My hubby says information technology is his new favorite meal. Definitely will brand again.
01/22/2005
I actually enjoyed this, just my married man thought it was too rich. Adjacent fourth dimension I call back I'll exit out the sour foam. Just this is definitely a keeper!
04/nineteen/2020
I add dry sherry and thyme. Very skillful!
ten/26/2014
As a hunter this is awesome. Made a few changes, red wine while cooking the meat, shallots, thyme, roasted red peppers, mushrooms, egg noddles.
02/06/2015
Great recipe - added some abrupt cheddar cheese to information technology as well - the whole family enjoyed it!
09/fourteen/2006
I fabricated this for my family and everyone absolutely loved information technology! My picky dad gave it 10 stars! Instead of using canned mushroom soup, i made my ain using the Cream of Mushroom Soup I recipe from this site and used 21 oz of it. I will definitely be making this once more!
12/31/2015
Instead of using the cubes, I used the burger. I also added about 1/ii cup of milk to assist make it a little more than "flossy". Made HUGE basin there was barely any left over.
11/29/2013
I like it, my husband don't like onions so I did not add the onion, adjacent time i retrieve i will only exercise 4 oz of the cream cheese it was almost to thick for me or peradventure add together a trivial milk
07/24/2012
It was terrible. We ate it with white rice which was the saving grace of the meal. We both eat venison all the time, I like it better than beef. So I was sceptical of a cook time of 30 minutes, too I should have been. I will stick to wearisome cooking for venison from now on.
02/10/2014
This recipe is WONDERFUL! Information technology is a great way to apply venison. I am married to a serious hunter. So, needless to say, I am always in need of different and delicious recipes. This one is a huge striking.
09/20/2014
Succulent recipe for deer! Added 4 minced garlic cloves to the pan when the meat was most cooked, as we are fans of the garlic/wild game taste. The only thing is that I establish it way likewise thick after adding the mushroom soup. I ended up calculation a cup of milk merely to make it into a thick sauce, then it was a consistency where I could stir it. As well, with the common salt in the soup, it was the perfect corporeality. I added none to the meat earlier cooking.
xi/09/2007
This was very good. Everyone went back for seconds. This will be a family unit favorite.
01/eleven/2003
Very rich. I substituted a vegitarian grain false meat which lowered the fat content. My hubby said information technology tasted like something I already made without the recipie. This would also work beef or elk meat.
03/xvi/2013
It wasn't equally thick as I thought it would be. Less cream or add corn starch to make it stick to the noodles and meat. All in all succulent though.
11/16/2014
very good recipe. I ate this for lunch for a week straight!
xi/02/2015
Easy and tastes great! (If you use home-canned venison, as I did, you will need to rinse it kickoff and skip the added table salt. Otherwise information technology will be likewise salty.)
09/12/2014
Oh Wow! This worked great. I used moose instead of venison just otherwise kept to the recipe. Absolutely delicious!
02/20/2020
Love it used deer venison and it was amazing!
02/16/2021
Turned out amazing! I added a little soy sauce for a little more flavor. Definitely making again.
01/x/2022
Made this and it was a winner. I did some slight tweaks notwithstanding. I do prefer a hearty season and while it is venison, I did add ii teaspoons of beef burgoo powder to the sauce, along with canned mushrooms. This is a keeper of a recipe for sure!
12/13/2020
Just made this. I added some mushrooms because I wanted some veg but other than that followed the recipe. Was adept.
12/06/2019
not enough meat
12/17/2015
For those of you who want less of venison flavour, peradventure adding a bit of soy sauce would assist. I added white vino stalk, onion, mushrooms, celery, soy sauce to mine if anyone is looking for more stuff to add--it's actually peachy. This recipe is awesome too very basic and very good!
10/12/2015
My husband brings home some delicious venison and we are always looking for new ways to set information technology. I found this recipe, we tried information technology and it was delicious. I'm going to teach the hunter how to brand this dish! :-)
01/05/2005
This is a adept recipe that is easy to brand. Kids seemed to like it as well. I used real minced garlic.
05/30/2018
I doubled this recipe for the whole family and it was and so so good!
02/17/2018
This is the easiest and most delicious stroganoff I've always made. If you don't like venison and so apply beef. Only thing I did differently was used a niggling cooking sherry. That's information technology.
10/12/2016
Easy and my family likes it
04/23/2017
this is i of my fav's for normal meal making. Nonetheless i cant always beget venison and then i have made it with hamburger or tuna then it is a nice fashion to switch it upwards a scrap. Though I'm likewise allergic to onions so i just skip it. merely overall this is absolutely astonishing to cook over and over once more on just about whatsoever pasta.
09/08/2020
Really good! Very creamy. Next fourth dimension I might use minced garlic instead of pulverisation then the garlic flavour volition co e through a scrap more.
06/01/2016
I inverse the recipe a little. First, I marinated the venison overnight in a aught lock bag with common salt, pepper, garlic, and some fajita spice in a pocket-size corporeality of olive oil. I followed the rest of the recipe except I browned meat in my slow cooker/pressure cooker and then slow cooked it for vi ane/2 Hours. Final footstep, I butter coated my noodles before serving. Meat was tasty but a footling dry. In the hereafter, I'll shorten slow cooker fourth dimension to 4 hours. Fast and excellent recipe. Loved it.
01/sixteen/2004
Absolutely unbelievable recipe! The venison tastes like beef in this recipe. Very proficient for a special dinner. I served with a salad and cheesecake. large hitting!
12/23/2014
Everyone enjoyed this meal. I cooked the onion and venison as directed, but then put the venison, onion, mushroom soup, garlic powder and pepper into a crock pot and slow cooked it for a couple hours. That actually helped to blend the flavors nicely. I skipped the sour cream but instead added a can of condensed milk as information technology irksome cooked. The result was a very thick and tasty stroganoff. Slow cooking with the milk added allowed the lactic acid in the milk to help tenderize and tame the venison.
12/07/2021
I put an envelope of Lipton onion soup in for an extra bit of sense of taste with this recipe. Came out perfect!
12/20/2020
I loved information technology
